By any account, the Blu*3 live concert featuring American R&B star will go down as the biggest and funkiest concert ever seen by Ugandans. When word went out that Blu*3 will have Montell Jordan as a guest at the launch of their album Burrn, no one really believed it until the man himself stepped off a KLM flight and straight into our dusty Kampala.

There was a party arranged for Blu*3 and Montell at the Capital Fm gardens on Friday the night before the concert that saw hundreds of skimpily dressed girls and their hangers on flock the gardens.

On Saturday morning the crew started putting finishing touches to a gigantic stage. There was at least 200 crew working at the KCC sports stadium for a few days before the concert to make sure that the lighting, sound, video screens and pyrotechnics worked without a glitch. The fireworks company was getting ready for a massive display, dozens of people scampered about chilling drinks and organizing catering for the huge crowd.

At exactly 7pm, the gates opened and an estimated 10,000 excited fans filled the venue to capacity. There was a party feel in the air as people ate and drank waiting for the moment Blu*3 and Montell hit the stage.
At 9pm sharp, the fireworks blasted off to start the show. The emcee of the night, Junior Kazoora introduced the opening acts which included Oscar Muwonge, Navio, Chagga and diva Juliana.

After the short performances, the emcee introduced Blu*3 to the stage amidst loud cheers from the audience. The girls emerged from under the stage on a mechanized lift, decked in white and gold costumes. They went thru a rendition of Woah and Frisky backed by 14 dancers. A costume change followed and when the curtains opened, the girls were perched atop a glittering pedestal with multiple video screens breathing fire for their hit Burrn.

By the time they took a break, their ecstatic fans had had a dose of Hitaji and other hits. Steve Jean out did himself this time with the production.

The emcee was back, this time to introduce Montell Jordan. With a hyper hip hop track, Montell took the crowd down memory lane with hits like Something for the Honeys, I like and more. By the time he sang This is how we do it, the crowd was on their feet screaming like little kids.
Blu*3 came back to sing their hits Kankyakyakye, Ndibeera nawe featuring Chagga and the massive hit, Nsanyuka Nawe.
The girls invited Montell to sing a few luganda words in Nsanyuka Nawe much to the audience’s delight.

After a brilliant performance from Blu*3 and Montell, we called it a night. Sorry to those of you guys that missed this mind blowing experience. All we hope for is Steve Jean to hire a better sound company the next time around.

Other stats from the show:
In order for the show to have that MTV feel, Steve Jean who produced the show spared no expense for what he called the Blu*3 circus.
