PRODUCTION

DIVIZIONZ is a low-budget digital guerilla feature film directed by YES! THAT’S US. It is a co-production between DEDDAC (Uganda) and SWITCH MEDIA (South Africa).

YES! THAT’S US is the directing collective of visual artists signed to Kampala based digital video production company, DEDDAC.

The film was written and produced by Mugisha Donald and James Tyler and stars Kyagulanyi ‘Bobi Wine’ Ssentamu, Bugembe ‘Buchaman’ Mark, Catherine ‘Scarlet’ Nakyanzi and Olem ‘Lot’ Bonny.

It was shot entirely in Kampala, Uganda from June to December 2006 and will be locally released in April 2007.

PLOT

KAPO, BANA, KANYANKOLE and MULOKOLE are 4 youths that originally come from 4 regions of the country (EASTERN, CENTRAL, WESTERN, and NORTHERN respectively) but now live in a neighbourhood on the outskirts of the city in the “Central ‘Division’, particulary in ZONE B4. They are all aspiring musicians, with each character representing stereotypical characteristics of people from the region they come from.

Through a contact, they have been offered a performance slot at a pub in the city that is starting “open mic sessions” locally dubbed KARAOKE. Kapo quits his job and raises some money to buy a track (instrumental) on which him and his crew will perform, plus transport fare to the city. They are ambushed by “GRADUATED TAX Enforcement Officers” before they can get to the city. After this, they find themselves with no money and no instrumental. In their quest to get to the city, they experience obstacles that test their friendship and mission.

Divizionz Premiere by Julie Erusa

“The friends we keep are the Enemies we make” is the theme of the movie.  Come to think about it, for those who have enemies they were once your good friends if you don’t have am sure you know such people once very good friends now they can hardly stand each other. Between then is a declared World War 3.

Divizionz to premiere in London and USA

An Official Selection at this year's Berlin Film Festival, Divizionz is an authentic portrayal of an African inner city slum. Set in Uganda's capital, this low- budget film is the story of four friends, Kapo, Bana, Kanyankole and Mulokole, from four parts of the country trying to make it in Kampala, where they have set out to start careers as hip hop musicians.
