Nyaka AIDS Orphanage

Nyaka Eire!! Fundraising concert

A night of glamour, UgPulse, a Ugandan website based in United States of America together is with Miss East Africa UK organized their first ever fundraising concert in Uganda. This concert was aimed at raising money for an AIDS orphanage in Kanungu.

The event was held at the new Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala and was graced with performers like Kay Morris a Jamaican artist based in Canada, Ngoni, Sarah Ndagire, Kinobe and the Soul Beat Band, Sandra Karigirwa, a Rwandese artist based in Uganda and not to forget some of the orphans from Nyaka AIDS Orphanage in Kanungu district.

The guest of honour for the day was Boney Katatumba, also gracing the event were politicians like Hon Miriam Matembe, Hon Minister Jessica Eriyo, Hon MP Henry Banyezaki as well as the Hon MP Chris Banyomozi of Kanungu district (where Nyaka is located). Other guests included representatives form The African Woman magazine who was also sponsors of the event and also not to forget that the MC’s of the night and the beauty queen were dressed in the lovely Sylvia Awori designs and representatives from both The French, Canadian embassies.

The night kicked of at about 7PM with the orphans of Nyaka AIDS Orphanage School, an amazing performance from Sandra Karigirwa, who concluded her performance with her dancers. She left the people asking for more.  Sarah Ndagire with her unique voice backed by Kinobe and the Soul Beat Africa Band. Kay Morris a Jamaican gospel artist all the way from Canada, a lady with an amazing voice also left people asking for more. Ngoni, put on an amazing performance that took the audience to dance floor, unlike their usual performance they were backed by The Soul Beat Africa Band, which plays a fusion of western and traditional instruments. Kinobe later on gave the crowd a treat to what many referred to as pure African music. The artists all put on a good performance  and a passion to help the kids. Like Miss East Africa UK said “ If you are not infected you are affected.

The climax of the function was the auctioning of the art pieces where everyone drew something and final touches were done by artists. This later ended up into a battle between the Ugandans and the Americans. Whether Uganda, beautiful works should remain here or go to the US, as usual the Americans won because they obviously had more money.

This is going to be an annual event. Let Us get together again and give more hope to the kids.

Jane says:

Sandra Karigirwa....people wanted more of you and your dancers...they were totally entranced by your entire performance and loved you! They felt that three songs were not enough...

Sarah Ndagire---your fashion sense, vocals and dance moves killed the crowd. They too felt that they wanted more of you. Totally blown away by you as an artist. Girl you can sing!!!

Kay Morris....what can I say...? Wonderful as usual....perhaps this article below can give you an idea??? You were rightfully praised in it....

Ngoni---You had the crowd dancing their **** off. Your music was so off the hook you had men in their 60's like my dad dancing like teenagers. Mirembe and I danced as well....loved the music.

Kinobe---you mesmerized all of us. Your music, your beats, the authenticity of its Africanness, your instruments.....were spectacular. My backside refused to stay in my chair...I just had to dance! Consider yourself now known in UG...You are among the greats and will go very far.

Mirembe---You were natural, seems you were born with a mike in your hand. You did such a great job, and people are looking to see more of you. Your biggest fan was proud of you and you killed those Sylvia Owori dresses with your style.

Peter----Great job too....I guess your "shyness'" disappeared after a while. Your speeches were eloquent and well thought out. Wonder why you were hesitant to say even more.

Emma---Your Nyaka speech had people teary-eyed. Your words were really needed in the show.

Maureen ….. You were not only radiant with your beauty but you gave a good speech. We were all proud of you. You did a great job just being you and being Miss East Africa UK.

Ruth---another beautiful woman who helped keep the show together. You were of great assistance to me, Mirembe and everyone involved. We thank you for all your help as the stage manager.

Gerald----Your hard work was noticed. You got us the media presence that we needed and we are all grateful to you. A lot was on your shoulders as you were out our UG representative but we were all impressed by your skills, professionalism and reliability of yourself and your UMC team. Very good job guys.

Julie- Music Uganda as usual very supportive. Very good job at the conference and even better job supporting the event on Saturday....

The sound people did a great job as well; all the volunteers in every capacity, the artists (visual) who got the pieces ready for the auction were all spectacular. We look forward to a better year next year!!!!

Lets do this another year!!!)
