Ugandan music has always had a complicated relationship with groups; from the days of I.Jay to Blu*3, groups have almost failed to hold their own in our industry, yet, every now and then, a new group crops up. Big Tym is one of these groups; in 2010, after winning a tedious competition, celebrated songwriter Silver Kyagulanyi embarked on a mission to turn the trio that included Ray Signature and Larry Chary into overnight stars. He, indeed, succeeded as the group churned out hits such as Sophia, Miss Uganda, Uga tone, Crush on You and the fan-favourite, Apple. But like all Ugandan groups, at the peak of their game in 2011, they decided to pursue solo careers, a move many critics condemned. Larry did songs such as Winner, Pen and Paper and Babandule alongside Mun*G, Ray Signature on the other hand debuted with Kasenyanku, a song about moving on after love has gone bad. The song met a lot of criticism for its similarities with Me and You, a single by Nigerian duo, Brackets.Ray, however, cemented his position with Sikuta, Focus with Maro, Tokoowa, Magical, and Ebigambo.
